As the new season kicks off this weekend, we’re pleased to announce the captains leading out our teams.
Leading from the front, Grant Hancox and Joe Rees will captain our 1st XV this season. Both are natural leaders on and off the pitch, respected, resilient, and ready to drive the team into the 2025–26 campaign.
Grant says: “Being named co-captain alongside Joe is a huge honour. To be given such responsibility is something I am immensely proud of. Having led the team with Joe by my side over the last few seasons, I am excited to continue on the journey we’ve started. Here’s to next season!”
Last season, Joe stepped up to lead the team while Grant recovered from an ACL injury. Now reunited, these two bring strength, experience, and unity to the squad.
The 2nd XV will see captaincy from Matt Spencer. A leader with heart, and a squad to match.
Matt says: “It’s a privilege to be considered for the Nomads captaincy. Bournemouth Rugby are moving in a great direction and I look forward to doing my part to ensure its continued progression.’’
Leading the charge for our 3rd XV is Jack Fuller, who takes on the captaincy with pride, passion, and a clear vision for the squad.
Jack says: ‘’I’m delighted to be named captain of the Wanderers rugby team and feel privileged to lead such a dedicated group of players who consistently give their all, both on and off the pitch. I look forward to building on the incredible success of last season’s promotion and cup victory, and to developing a strong first-team squad environment within the Wanderers.’’
Will Croker, Director of Rugby said: “With Joe and Grant for the Lions, Matt for the Nomads and Jack for the Wanderers, we have four guys that people will follow.
The key attribute of any good captain is to be a good person, one that shows humility, hard work, ambition, collaboration and sets standards at training, in matches, and around the club that others aspire to.”
Will added: “These guys do that and more, and I and the coaching team are delighted they have accepted the offer to lead their respective teams into what will be a tough but very exciting season ahead.”
