HAVE A TRY SAYS BOURNEMOUTH RUGBY AS IT PLANS TO LAUNCH NEW SENIOR LADIES RUGBY TEAM

Plans are in place at Bournemouth Rugby to launch a Senior Ladies Rugby Team.

The thriving community club is asking for females interested in joining the squad to register their interest.

Hughton Campbell, Bournemouth Rugby Ladies Team Coach, said: “We have a good youth section at the club, but up until now there has been no pathway for girls to follow playing rugby post 17 years old.

“We are keen that our lady members have the opportunity to be able to continue their rugby experiences and that we can keep their talent, passion and enthusiasm within the club.

“We will be putting a proposal to the RFU to join a local league for the 22-23 season, and for the coming season we will schedule friendly matches with local clubs.

“We intend to start pre-season training sessions in August.

“In the longer term we have ambitions to progress to higher level rugby and to have a Premiership team within five years.”

Hughton, pictured left, has a wealth of coaching experience as a Team Manager within the Jamaica RFU.

He has coached both men and women’s 7’s teams as well as the men’s 15 team.

He has also been involved with the coaching for the England Universities (South Region) Women’s Rugby 7’s and is Head Coach for Bournemouth University Women’s 7’s and 15’s teams.

Registrations of interest are requested by email to hughton.campbell@bournemouth-rugby.co.uk

Girls Rugby Update

Firstly I hope that this update of our past season finds all our friends in our wider rugby community all safe and well. I am sure that we are all desperate to get back to playing ways however times like this have reminded us how important that family is and that we must adhere to the advice provided by both the Government and by the RFU to ensure our safety. All of us at Girls rugby can’t wait until we can be with our wider rugby family once again and be part of the atmosphere at training on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings.

The Girls 2019/20 season although understandably finishing early will be a season that we look back on fondly and with much positivity .

Our player numbers have continued to grow throughout the year and we now have the largest u13s squad in Dorset and Wilts. We have also this season gone international for the first time and have been joined by a German student enriching their learning experience in the UK and has experienced English rugby here at Bournemouth RFC. We have welcomed a few players back to playing this season from long term injury and it has been great to see them all back in action and adding their experience to the group.

Our numbers will continue to grow into next season as we will welcome a number of players to Girls rugby from our u11s mini section. A big thank you to Paul senior and all the coaches at u11s to help support and develop these players and we promise to look after them!!

We have represented the club at all the arranged Dorset and Wilts county clusters this season and at the last of these meets we managed to have an event attended by over 140 players across the three age groups of u13s/u15s and u18s.

The positivity continues with our performances on the pitch with all our players demonstrating increased skills levels across the season and our team performances have also greatly improved with us learning quickly with each fixture.

Paige and I are extremely proud to report that this season Bournemouth RFC had 5 players selected to play at county level across u15s + u18s and we hope that these players enjoyed this amazing experience and will bring back to us what they have learnt and enhance the group. Our u13s very nearly made it to the end of the season unbeaten however in the very last fixture we came up against an extremely strong side from Bristol and we were narrowly defeated.

Due to the current circumstances we have obviously missed out on the end of season finale with Festivals and our very own tour to Richmond and Windsor. Although to miss out on this is disappointing this season the Girls have had plenty of game time and deserve a well earned break over the summer.

I must say a number of thank yous, firstly to Paige our lead coach who has done a fantastic job in coaching and developing the teams and has also supported me in my coaching journey.

To our parents I must say a huge thank you. With the fixtures that I have arranged I have asked you all to travel an amazing distance across the twin counties of Dorset and Wilts.

Thanks also has to go to all the coaches at Bournemouth RFC who have helped develop our female players most notably Greg Pike and Stu Gallagher and also for their continued support of me on a personal level.

Finally the last thank you is reserved for our players whom without we would not have had such an amazing season. Well done to you all and Paige and I can’t wait to see you all next season.

Stay safe and well
