Youth Weekend Round

Player of the month - Bournemouth Girls

U13s Winner – Izzy Clayton

Izzy has played rugby here at Bournemouth RFC for the last 4 seasons. Originally starting off playing with girls Izzy relished the opportunity to play with the boys and some of her friends and so she spent a full season with the u11s.
Izzy rejoined us last season and has continued to flourish over the last two seasons with the Girls and has been ever present at training and fixtures.
Izzy is a strong player with great core skills and is real leader in our u13s team.
It is her demonstration however of some of rugby’s core values that her seen her recognised for this award.
Izzy has been amazing in offering help and support with those less confident than her in the tackle. She has encouraged others and also demonstrated to others to help build their confidence. A real team player.

U15s Winner – Rebecca Goldsmith-Wass

Rebecca has been playing here at Bournemouth RFC for the last two seasons. Rebecca has a love of sport and regularly doubles up her training nights with both Rugby followed by Hockey.
In her short time with us Becca has grown into a very much liked member of the team who is always friendly and welcoming to everyone especially new players. Playing continuously with a smile on her face she is a dream to coach.
Becca has demonstrated all the key values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and sportsmanship. And for these reasons she is a very deserving recipient of this award

Faith has only been with us a few weeks however it is fair to say that she has made an immediate impact with us.
Having played rugby 7s regularly in Texas, Faiths core skills of run, catch and pass are of a very high standard. Her reading of the game and communication to others is also of the highest order.
Faith is willing to help and encourage others around her and to pass on some of the skills she has learnt in the US.
Faiths willingness to get involved and play with enjoyment along with her encouragement of others is the reason she has been recognised for this award. A very deserving recipient of this award

Under 13

Bournemouth Under 13’s were away to Trojans. Team manager Grant said “Thanks to parents for taking time to bring the players to Eastleigh, all coaches thought all players put in a very good shift, giving their full commitment and energy to the game and the team. Players are falling into their roles nicely and building on their individual responsibilities. Trojans tackled well and were low in the rucks and had a good handle on hooking in the scrum with their “Inspector gadget leg’s” hooker! Things we need to build on but we also won quite a few rucks which was good to see. Trojans was a very welcoming club with good facilities and we look forward to welcoming them to Bournemouth in January.”

Under 14

Our Under 14’s seem to be going from strength to strength fielding two teams both playing competitive games this Sunday.

Our development team faced a strong Dorchester team away. Whilst the game was planned as a development game due to sickness and availability they faced a much stronger side. Despite this they continued to play with the spirit of a lion, loosing but gaining vital experience and game time.

Our other team were at home against Winchester. Coach Wheeler said “Well done boys, a great game, Lions roar.” With praise from a number of sources our under 14’s are becoming a force to be reckoned with.

Well done boys and the coaching team.

Portsmouth v colts

Bournemouth Rugby Colts played away at Portsmouth, Coach Burns said “Incredible performance by the boys who travelled to Portsmouth. Coming away victorious.” Final score Portsmouth 29 v 38 Bournemouth. The Colts running in a total of 6 tries to 4.

The Colts also saw four players selected to play for the Hampshire county team, this Sunday they were presented with their county ties. Congratulations on your achievements.

Bournemouth players selected for Premiership Development programme

Bournemouth Rugby is pleased to announce that 8 of our under 14’s players have been selected by Premiership Rugby Clubs to enter their Developing Player Programme (DPP).

The DPP engages players aged 13 – 16 years old and is a development programme which interacts with and complements school, club and county playing programmes, to provide further development opportunities for young players without the conflict of competition.

These programme’s are nationally managed by the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and delivered locally through a partnership between the RFU, the Regional Academies and Constituent Bodies.

DPP represents the entry point to the talent pathway for professional rugby and represents the place where players will be identified and developed with a view to selecting those players with the greatest long-term potential to join the club academy at U17 level.

A huge congratulations to our players, that have been selected

For Bath, the selected players are:

Korbin Clark

Jack Gallacher

Finn Marshall

Jacka Ware

James Wheeler

Dan Williams

Felix Vincent

For London Irish,  the selected player is:

Carson Parry

This success by our U14’s is down to both the hard work of both players and to our talented U14’s volunteer coaches who’s hard work and dedication is paying off with so many players selected for the DPP programme. From the whole of Bournemouth Rugby well done and congratulations.

Youth Weekend Round-Up 31/10/21

Unfortunately BU closed Chapel Gate for all sport on Sunday due to water logged pitches and weather conditions. Making the site unsafe for outside sport to take place. Despite this we see our players of te annoucement of our players of the month and the Under 14’s in the 2nd Round of the Hampshire cup

Player of the month U9 - Reece

Reece has shown great intelligence on the pitch. He has excellent spatial awareness and support play, seemingly always in a great position. Couple that with a few diving try-saving tackles, he earns the U9s player of the month. Well done Reece! Coaches Neil, Andy, Mike and Jimmy.

Under 14

Our Under 14’s did manage to get game on Sunday playing away in the U14’s Hampshire Cup 2nd Round. The under 14’s played made the club proud putting playing with vigour and the spirt of the Lions. A special mention to the forwards, they were immense and secured plenty of ball for the backs today that built a great platform to attack from. Everyone put in a massive shift in defence too. Bournemouth overcome a strong and determined Wimborne team winning 5 – 25. Well done!

player of the month u13 - george

Bournemouth Rugby U13’s coaching squad announced last Wednesday during a soggy training session that George Curtis is our BRFC October player of the month. George is a power house in the forwards and demonstrates how to be a solid, resilient wall of defence particularly during our first friendly fixture in 18 months recently.

George has been the cornerstone of the U13’s support in the ruck to retain the ball and push forward. He has worked hard this season and is an asset to the squad. Well done George in being awarded Player of the Month for October.

HAVE A TRY SAYS BOURNEMOUTH RUGBY AS IT PLANS TO LAUNCH NEW SENIOR LADIES RUGBY TEAM

Plans are in place at Bournemouth Rugby to launch a Senior Ladies Rugby Team.

The thriving community club is asking for females interested in joining the squad to register their interest.

Hughton Campbell, Bournemouth Rugby Ladies Team Coach, said: “We have a good youth section at the club, but up until now there has been no pathway for girls to follow playing rugby post 17 years old.

“We are keen that our lady members have the opportunity to be able to continue their rugby experiences and that we can keep their talent, passion and enthusiasm within the club.

“We will be putting a proposal to the RFU to join a local league for the 22-23 season, and for the coming season we will schedule friendly matches with local clubs.

“We intend to start pre-season training sessions in August.

“In the longer term we have ambitions to progress to higher level rugby and to have a Premiership team within five years.”

Hughton, pictured left, has a wealth of coaching experience as a Team Manager within the Jamaica RFU.

He has coached both men and women’s 7’s teams as well as the men’s 15 team.
