Welcome to Bournemouth Colts, Bournemouth Academy.
Are you an ambitious rugby player who in September will be of the age for year group 11, 12 or 13? Do you want to develop in an environment where you have the opportunity to achieve your goals and be the best version of yourself?
Combining some of the best and most experienced coaches in the region, led by Academy Director Jo Burns (Level 3 Coach) the coaching team will support your development and ensure that you:
- Enjoy yourself with existing and new team mates
- Have the opportunity to test and improve your capability
- Develop attributes in all facets of rugby – mental, physical, technical & tactical.
We recognise that The Academy is essential to the continued growth of our senior section. The Academy will be closely supported by senior coaches Dan Connolly (Senior Rugby Head Coach, Level 3 Coach, Bath DPP Coach, International Player) and Mike Pope (Level 3 Coach, Senior Rugby Coach, Bath PDG Coach, Bath DPP Centre Lead, Ex Professional Player). You journey through The Academy will also be overseen by dedicated pathway coordinators Dom Davies and Jeff Allum.
Not only will you receive top class coaching, focused on you, but you can also expect:

– Suitable for use in GCSE & A-Level PE

– Opportunity to test yourself at county and regional level (in the last two seasons 14 players have played county rugby, 4 have played regional rugby)
– Season highlight reels
– Support in gaining additional coaching through DPP/PDG programmes (in the last two seasons 14 players have followed a DPP programme and 4 players have been part of Bath PDG programme)

Damien Carroll
Colts Lead Coach
Jo Burns is Bournemouth Academy Director, he is supported by Gareth Williams Academy Manager. The Colts lead coach is Damian Carroll who is supported by a team of experienced coaches. All coaches and managers are willing and passionate volunteers and are required to complete the Rugby Ready CPD, Safeguarding CPD, and First Aid courses. We are of course all DBS checked too. We aim to continuously improve our coaching, and with this in mind, are very open to feedback. We encourage active participation from parents and carers. Come speak to us!
training
The academy squad train on a Tuesday and Thursday evening 7.00pm – 8.30pm at our home ground Chapel Gate under floodlight pitches and Sundays play or train home and away from 2:00pm.
Strength & Conditioning
The club is striving hard to mirror the professionalism of the modern game. There is a healthy gym culture amongst the keener members of the club. We have also established a number of links with nutritionists and dietitians where more support is given to players about diet, the right and wrong things to eat, the right times to eat, hydration, and so on. We are sure that this dedication off the field will turn itself into wins on match-day.
Player membership
New players are always welcome and can just turn up and join in the first few sessions are free. If you would like more information contact a manager or coach . Full membership for Colts players currently stands at £125. We also offer attractive family memberships which offer far greater benefits to the whole family.
