Welcome

Bournemouth first XV are known as Bournemouth Lions. The Lions play in the Regional 2 South Central League.

We boast four teams, playing facilities of the highest standard and a great, friendly club atmosphere. From beginners to experts Bournemouth Rugby caters for all levels of ability and experience. All 4 teams play in various leagues and competitions.

The first and second teams are competitive outfits with a focus on results. The third team is a strong, fun outfit that consistently feeds into the 1st and 2nd XVs. The 4th XV is a great team for keen players, particularly newcomers, to hone their skills and increase their rugby experience and game time before making their way up the Bournemouth rugby ladder or players just wanting the occasional run out.

training

The third and fourth teams train together and in what is known as the black squad, making it easy for players to make the transition between the two teams. Training for all teams takes place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with a prompt 7 pm start. Most matches are held on a Saturday afternoon. We find this schedule works well as we can achieve a lot and cover a fair amount of work, with a schedule that is not overly demanding for the players. New players are always welcome, a assessment will be made to place you in either the gold or black squads. You can either just turn up or contact us via our roles page. The first few sessions are free, we will then ask you to purchase your membership for the season.

Strength & Conditioning

The club is striving hard to mirror the professionalism of the modern game. There is a healthy gym culture amongst the keener members of the club. We have also established a number of links with nutritionists and dietitians where more support is given to players about diet, the right and wrong things to eat, the right times to eat, hydration, and so on. We are sure that this dedication off the field will turn itself into wins on match-day.
